Levi, Heather and I went on an adventure in Dubai. We had a lay over for 8ish hours. We arrived in Dubai at midnight and left the next morning. The three of us wanted to see Dubai...so we did. We hired a taxi (a ladies taxi at that) and off we went. We spent 2 hours gallivanting around Dubai. We saw everything Dubai has to offer. We even got to put our feet in the Arabian Sea. We ate Shwarmas and saw the world tallest building. It was a great time. We were fortunate enought to get back into the airport to get a few hours of sleep before getting on another long flight!!!

Hello from Uganda!!!

Hi. I am very excited to be writing this blog from Uganda, for a few reasons. It is a miracle that we have internet at all here and because I absolutely love Africa and feel so blessed to be here. I have never been to Uganda, but have to a bunch of countries in Africa and have always enjoyed my time there. Uganda is everything I had hoped it would be and MORE!!! This country is beautiful. Green and nice weather!!

We are living with an amazing family (I am still not sure who all lives in the house…there are so many people). Everyone has been so welcoming and kind. Heather and I are in the shack in the back (a little apartment). We have a bed and a bathroom with HOT showers. I repeat…HOT showers!! I never would have imagined that Africa is where we would be the cleanest… for the most part anyways.

We have all become senior painters!! That is what our Boss, Sam, calls us anyways. This whole week we have been serving at Lulwanda Children’s Home in Mbale, Uganda. We have been painting in the morning and playing with the kids in the afternoon! I am the messiest painter Africa has ever seen.

The kids/staff here are absolutely amazing. They are the friendliest, most beautiful people I have ever met. Each one has had an impact on my life.

I’d like to tell you the story of Marium. When she was born, her mother put her in the field and left her. A nice lady found her and cared for her as much as possible, but it came to a point where she could no longer afford to take care of her. The Uganda equivalent of CPS found out of Marium and placed her at this Children’s home. Marium is very healthy and so happy. She is full of joy and makes everyone she meets smile!! She is a little delayed in her learning, which has been challenging for me (special ed teacher). I have had the opportunity to work with her for a little while each afternoon!! I was sad to leave her today, but know that she is taken care of and super happy where she is!!

I would love to tell you each child’s story, but I do not have much time left on the internet.

I am so thankful to have spent the past week in Uganda and would love to return.

I am excited about going to South America next. We will be leaving Uganda on Sunday and getting to Brazil on Tuesday. LONG TRAVEL!!! Please continue to pray for our team. The Lord answers, “Can a woman forget the baby she nurses? Can she fell no kindness for the child to which she gave birth? Even if she could forget her children, I will not forget you.”

God wants us to know that we are His precious little ones - His Children – and that when we come to Him, we show faith in Him which releases Him to care for us.

Parents are to be a mirror image in the physical realm of what our relationship with God is to be like in the spiritual realm.


These passages in my bible study really stuck out to me while serving at the orphanage this past week. I wondered WHO is supposed to care for these kids in the physical realm. None of these kids have parents and if they do they do not treat them right which is why they live at the orphanage. Our team was only at the orphanage for 7 days. It was not a lot of time, but enough to fall in love with all of the children, to love them like they deserve to be loved.

This was my third time at this orphanage (blows my mind saying that). Every time I come to this place, I am amazed by the children. Even though they do not have parents to set the example of living a godly life, they all do. Even though, they do not have parents to care for their physical needs, they are all taken care of. By WHO….GOD!!! God has and will continue to show favor upon that little orphanage because of their faith and obedience.

On trips like these the goal is to go to a place and serve the people, teach them, assist them and encourage them. In India, it was quite the opposite. The children are always serving us, teaching us assisting us and encouraging us. If we had to go to the bathroom and they saw us carrying a bucket to the well, (yeah…you have to fetch water) they would run up and take the bucket ad get the water for us. As soon as we were done eating, they would take our plates ad wash them. I was washing my clothes and within seconds ten little girls were with me scrubbing them clean.

It was and always is a valuable lesson to learn how to truly SERVE! There needs to be no reward or thanks. There needs to be no expectation or receiving the same care or treatment. I was taught this lesson by a beautiful group of children…gotta love that!!!

Amma Mamma!! Amma is an older lady who lives in the girls dorm and cares for them day and night. She is the REGULATOR (she calls it control). When I was at the orphanage in December we became good friends. She told me (through a translator of course) that she has prayed for me everyday since! We had a lot of laughs this time. She is very affectionate and constantly wants to be hugging or kissing on us. She needs as much love as the children. We spent a lot of quality time together. I feel very fortunate to have a friend like her!!!

Y-E-L-L-O-W TEAM!!! I was the leader of the yellow team for the Emmanuel Orphanage Olympics. We had a few hours each day that we would do organized sports/games with the kids. I had a group of 5 boys. They were shy at first, but opened up real quick! They enjoyed every second of the Olympics. One day I just happened to be wearing a yellow shirt at morning prayer (5:30 am). Next time I saw my boys, they were all wearing yellow. It was really special.

As our time in India is coming to an end I have mixed feelings. I am going to miss the children so much! They have truly impacted my life and for that I am thankful. I am also excited because the rest of the trip will all be new for me. I have not been to Uganda, Brazil or Peru! I love new experiences so I am really looking forward to what lies ahead. I am also very hopeful that it is not quite so hot everywhere else!!!

Those of you who were with me the first time in India are laughing right now aren’t you. I was the one who prayed that God would make a way for me NOT to go to India. Now, I have been here 3 times!! FUNNY HUH???
